See the Town’s Silver at the First Barnstaple Craft Market

Next Sunday 14 June a new monthly craft market will be starting in Barnstaple Guildhall to compliment the regular Real Food Market in the Pannier Market below. The event also has an extra treat on offer for visitors, after looking at the best of new makers they will be invited to step inside the very special Dodderidge Room; normally only opened for special occasions and tours. Town Councillors will be on hand to show you the Town’s treasures including the Town Plate, Mayor’s ceremonial chains and chains of the Master Butchers and Bakers of Barnstaple.

Event organiser Dion Sears says “The Guildhall is mainly used for civic ceremonies and Town Council events, this year we will be trying to organise more events for the local community. The Dodderidge Room is rarely opened for visitors so this is a very special opportunity to have a look inside.”

In addition to the new monthly market there are several more events planned for the Guildhall including a concert with international Blues musician Martin Harley on 4 December, Heritage Open Days and more in the planning.

All the crafts on show on Sunday will be handmade in North Devon, it’s a showcase for the best of local makers in a unique setting. All the crafts have been carefully selected from a vast array of applications, the plan is to have different makers and artists selling at each market so that there will always be something new to see and a new part of the Guildhall opened up for visitors to explore.

The first market will run on Sunday 14 June 10.30am – 4pm in Barnstaple Guildhall which can be accessed from Butcher Row or the door inside the Pannier Market.
